Relationship between Packaging and Sales
The way the product is presented to the customer is the whole essence of packaging. It entails the physical appearance that will make the consumer select it and leave the other products. If the package that holds the product becomes appealing enough, the customer might end up purchasing it even though it was not it their budget. Extensive research has shown that most consumers tend to impulse-buy when they see the package that the product is in. So if you want your sales to shoot up, you better get that awesome packaging technique going.
The message the package portrays is the end game. For all those who can read, the message should be clear and legible. It is not a must that you use writings, you can as well use logos and symbols that are not difficult to interpret. Consumers tend to leave that product with no legible inscriptions and put their trust on that package brand that is clearly written. The message should contain instructions on how to use the product, who it was made for, and where it comes from.
Another detail that should be carefully designed and planned on s the color of the package. This influences just about the whole concept of packaging. Different appeals are signified by the different colors. Each color has its own message that the consumer will recognize. Things like the ingredients, the logo design, the contacts and addresses, and instructions will all have a set of colors used. A good example is the different colors that are used when packaging cleaning products, children’s products and foods.
When you get the color right, you cannot afford to mess with the shape of the package. Different shapes tend to show what is inside the package. You might find a toothbrush , round ball, toothbrush, toy plane, a curvy bottle, etc. At times, the way the product is shaped might give you a clue as to which gender it is made for. This way, females or males, depending on the targeted gender, will be more appealed to buy. A package that has provisions for holders is much more convenient than that which has none.
Once you have adhered to the above guidelines, you have to be careful not to overdo the whole concept. A complicated package will chase your consumers away and also be costly for you. Everything should be as simple as possible. It is easier to remember a simple designed package than a single one which is complicated.
Lastly, take heed that your package should not harm the environment in any way. Recyclable packages are becoming common each day. You can also design a package that the consumer can use long after the product has been depleted. The product should be well protected by the package. The package you design must be secure in all aspects.
